Claude Architect Certification Target Candidate
The ideal candidate is a solution architect who designs and implements production applications with Claude. This is not an entry-level exam — it requires real-world experience building systems, not just using Claude for everyday tasks.
Candidates are expected to understand both the capabilities and limitations of large language models in production. The exam validates your ability to make informed architectural tradeoffs, not your ability to write prompts or use Claude as a chat assistant.
Required Hands-On Experience
Candidates should have practical experience across the following areas:
- Building agentic applications using the Claude Agent SDK — multi-agent orchestration, subagent delegation, tool integration, and lifecycle hooks
- Configuring Claude Code for team workflows — CLAUDE.md files, Agent Skills, MCP server integrations, and plan mode
- Designing MCP tool and resource interfaces for backend system integration
- Engineering prompts for reliable structured output — JSON schemas, few-shot examples, and extraction patterns
- Managing context windows across long documents, multi-turn conversations, and multi-agent handoffs
- Integrating Claude into CI/CD pipelines for automated code review and test generation
- Making escalation and reliability decisions — error handling, human-in-the-loop workflows, and self-evaluation patterns
Recommended Experience Level
Typically 6+ months of practical experience building with Claude APIs, Agent SDK, Claude Code, and MCP. You should be comfortable designing end-to-end systems, not just calling APIs. Understanding both capabilities and limitations of large language models in production is essential.
The exam assumes you have built, debugged, and iterated on real Claude-powered applications. Theoretical knowledge alone is insufficient — many questions present production scenarios where the correct answer depends on understanding how these systems behave in practice.
Who This Certification Is NOT For
- General business users or casual Claude users — the exam tests architecture-level design decisions, not conversational usage
- People exploring Claude for the first time — you need production experience to contextualize the tradeoffs tested on the exam
- Those looking for a prompting basics credential — this is an architecture-level certification that goes well beyond prompt engineering
- Developers without production deployment experience — the scenarios assume familiarity with real-world constraints like latency, cost, reliability, and scale
